Most careers are shaped by opportunity.Dr. Robert McGrath was shaped by constraint.
Before he built businesses in health and performance, he faced a limitation that could have defined everything that came after.
“I was born with two clubbed feet,” McGrath says. “Doctors questioned how well I would ever be able to walk.”
That starting point did not lead to hesitation. It led to a different standard.
McGrath grew up in Southern New Jersey. He was an only child. Sports became his focus early, especially ice hockey.
At Trinity Pawling Preparatory School in New York, he became captain of the team. His performance later took him to the Olympic Training Center in Michigan and into NHL training camps with the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.
But his path was not built on talent alone.
“I’ll never claim to be the most physically gifted athlete,” he says. “But I refuse to be outworked.”
That mindset became a constant. It shaped how he approached both success and setbacks.
Looking back, hockey was not just about competition. It was about learning how to operate under pressure.
“You learn more from a loss than you will from a win,” he says. “That carries into everything else.”
